NVIDIA Instant Replay

Auto captions for NVIDIA ShadowPlay clips

Hit Instant Replay in the NVIDIA App and keep playing. Substrike sees the new clip, captions it on your PC, and has it waiting, ready to post. No more clips stuck in a folder because editing each one was too much work.

How it works with Instant Replay

  1. Turn on Instant Replay in the NVIDIA App. It saves clips to a videos folder, which you can set in its settings. Check where your first clip lands.
  2. Point Substrike’s watch folder at that folder, and leave Substrike open.
  3. Play. Each new clip saved there is queued and captioned automatically. One failed clip never stops the rest.
  4. Check, then post. Substrike points out the words the speech model was unsure of, and Review words steps through only those words.

Your voice on its own track

When the NVIDIA App records your mic on its own track (check its audio settings), Substrike can caption your voice apart from the game sound. Friends in Discord stay mixed with the game unless the recorder gives them a track of their own. Single track clips are captioned too, and speaker colours work best with separate tracks.

Speakers get their own colour, and you can name a friend once and they are remembered in later clips. More on that in captions for Discord voice chat.

Ready for every platform

Pick from 7 caption styles with word by word animation, then export sized for TikTok, Shorts, Reels, YouTube or Discord. SRT and ASS subtitle files can be saved too.

Not only NVIDIA

Substrike works on saved video files, not one recorder. The watch folder also takes clips from OBS, AMD, Steam Game Recording, Xbox Game Bar and Medal. See captions for OBS replay clips and captions for Steam Game Recording clips.

Things to know

  • The watch folder picks up clips saved after watching starts, while Substrike is open. Use a separate output folder so exports are not watched too.
  • It listens rather than watches. A silent play gets no captions, and a clip with no speech gets no file.
  • Names, slang and game jargon are the most common misses. A names list and find and replace rules fix many of them.
  • 64 bit Windows 11. Windows 10 should work but is not tested yet. See good to know and the requirements.

Questions

NVIDIA Instant Replay and captions

If yours is not here, ask support.

Can Substrike caption my ShadowPlay clips automatically?

Yes. Point the watch folder at the folder where the NVIDIA App saves your Instant Replay clips, and leave Substrike open. Each new clip saved there is queued and captioned automatically.

Where does the NVIDIA App save Instant Replay clips?

To a videos folder you can set in the NVIDIA App’s settings. Check the folder after saving your first clip, then point the watch folder at it.

Do I have to keep Substrike open?

Yes. The watch folder picks up clips saved after watching starts, while Substrike is open. Use a separate output folder so exports are not watched too.

Will it caption my friends separately from the game?

Yes, when their voices are on a track of their own. A separate mic track covers your voice only. Single track clips are captioned too, though telling speakers apart is harder.

Do I need an NVIDIA graphics card?

No. Substrike works on saved video files from any recorder. NVIDIA, AMD and Intel hardware encoders are used for export when present, and Windows’ own encoder when not.

Does it upload my clips?

No. Captioning runs on your PC. The privacy notice lists every connection the app makes.
