Privacy notice
Written 20 September 2026 from what the app's code does in the version 1.0 preparation build. Items in [square brackets] are placeholders the owner has not filled in yet. The list of network connections must be re-checked against the code before every release.
Who we are: Christian Murphy, ABN 34 213 253 985, support@substrike.com.au (mailbox being set up).
The short version
- Your video, audio and transcripts are processed on your own PC. They are not uploaded to Substrike or to any speech service for processing. Files leave your PC only if you choose to post to Discord, send us a support attachment, download updates or models, or (planned) activate a licence.
- Substrike uses the internet only to download the speech models, to check for and download updates, and to post to a Discord webhook if you set one up. A one-time licence check is planned for paid licences; it is not built yet (see "Purchase and licensing").
- Substrike has no cloud account for your footage. We found no code in this version that sends analytics, usage data, crash reports or your files to us. Licence activation, when it is built, will add one connection.
- Buying Substrike happens on a separate checkout run by our payment provider, described below.
Every network connection Substrike makes
Compiled by reading the application's code. It is meant to be complete for this version.
| # | When | Where it connects | What is sent | What comes back |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | You press Download for a speech or timing model | huggingface.co (Hugging Face), repositories ggerganov/whisper.cpp and Xenova/wav2vec2-base-960h | A normal file-download request. Hugging Face sees your IP address and the usual request details. Substrike does not send your name, licence, clips or transcripts. | The model file (78 MB to 3,095 MB), checked against a fixed checksum |
| 2 | You press Get AI cleanup | huggingface.co, repository Qwen/Qwen2.5-1.5B-Instruct-GGUF | Same as above | The cleanup model file (about 1,117 MB), checked against a fixed checksum |
| 3 | About 2.5 seconds after the app starts, and when you press Check for updates | github.com, the public releases page of Substrike (file latest.json, served from GitHub's download host) | A normal web request. GitHub can see your IP address and the request details any download sends. Substrike runs no update server of its own. | A small file saying whether a newer version exists |
| 4 | Only if you press Update & restart | GitHub Releases (the installer file named in the update file) | A normal file-download request | The new installer, whose signature Substrike checks against a public key built into the app before installing |
| 5 | Only if you pasted a Discord webhook URL and you choose to post (or turn on automatic posting) | The discord.com or discordapp.com webhook address you entered | The file or message you chose: an exported video, a compiled reel, or a text digest (clip count, how many were flagged for review) | Discord's response |
| 6 | Only if you connect a Twitch account, then at each clip check (on the schedule you choose, or when you select Check now) | id.twitch.tv and api.twitch.tv (Twitch), then the temporary download address Twitch gives for each new clip | Substrike's public Twitch app ID and your Twitch sign-in token (the token goes to Twitch only, never to the download address). Twitch sees your IP address. No clips, transcripts or other files are sent. | Your channel's clip list (title, who made each clip, when, game), your account name, and each new clip's video file |
Things that look like network activity but are not:
- AI cleanup and translation run entirely on your PC. Substrike starts a small local program (llama-server) and talks to it over your own computer's loopback address (127.0.0.1) on a random port. That traffic never leaves the machine.
- Speech recognition, word timing, speaker detection, captions, highlights and video export are all local programs run by Substrike on your PC.
If the models are already on disk and you never check for updates, set up Discord or connect Twitch, Substrike makes no connections after the start-up update check. Blocking the update check in your firewall is safe; Substrike will simply not find updates.
What stays local during processing
Substrike does not upload any of the following for processing:
- Your clips and recordings, and the audio extracted from them.
- Transcripts, captions, edits, styles and projects.
- The words and audio sent to the AI cleanup and translation model (it runs locally).
- Voice profiles ("voice fingerprints") created when you name a speaker.
- Your folder names and file paths, including the watch folder.
Files or text you choose to post to Discord (row 5) go to Discord, and clips, logs or screenshots you choose to email us for support reach us that way. Those leave your PC through your own action.
What Substrike stores on your PC
- Models you download, in Substrike's data folder (normally
%APPDATA%\com.substrike.app\models). - Autosaves of your work on each video: transcript, edits, style choices and any speaker voice profiles you created. Voice profiles are numeric summaries of a voice used to recognise the same speaker again; they stay in that autosave and in any project file you save.
- Learned preferences: a small file recording thumbs-up or thumbs-down on highlights, and a list of phrase corrections you made.
- Settings and history in the app's browser-style storage: recent clips, chosen model, theme, export choices, custom style presets, the batch queue, and your Discord webhook URL if you enter one. A webhook URL works like a password for that channel: anyone who has it can post there. It is stored on your PC in plain form, not encrypted.
- Temporary working files (for example audio extracted for transcription) in Windows's per-user cache folder while a clip is processed.
- Exported videos wherever you choose to save them.
To remove everything, uninstall Substrike and delete the folders above.
Voice profiles
Naming a speaker can store a numeric voice fingerprint so the same voice is labelled consistently across re-runs. In some places a voiceprint used to identify a person can count as sensitive or biometric information, and we treat it as sensitive information under the Australian Privacy Principles that we follow voluntarily (see "Your rights" below). Substrike keeps it on your PC only and does not send it anywhere. If you process other people's voices, for example friends in a voice chat, you are responsible for having the right to do so.
Twitch clip import
Optional, and off until you connect a Twitch account.
- What is accessed. When you select Connect Twitch you approve Substrike on twitch.tv, and Twitch gives Substrike a sign-in token with one permission,
channel:manage:clips. Substrike uses it only to list your own channel's clips and download their video files through Twitch's official clip download feature. It also reads your Twitch user ID, login and display name to show which account is connected. It never posts, edits or deletes anything on Twitch. - Where it is stored. The sign-in token is kept in Windows Credential Manager on this PC (listed as "Substrike/Twitch"), never in a file or in the app's browser-style storage, and it is only ever sent to Twitch. Downloaded clips, with a small .twitch.json file beside each one (title, creator, date, link, game), go to the folder you choose. A record of which clips were already downloaded, your Twitch import settings, your account name and a short activity log (which never contains the token) are kept in
%APPDATA%\com.substrike.app\twitch. - Not shared. Clips download to this PC only and are not shared. Substrike does not upload them or pass them to anyone.
- How to disconnect. Select Disconnect in the Twitch clips settings. Substrike asks Twitch to cancel the token and removes it from Credential Manager, even when you are offline. You can also remove Substrike's access on twitch.tv under Settings, Connections. Clips already downloaded stay where they are until you delete them; to remove the rest, delete the twitch folder above.
Purchase and licensing
Payment will be taken by Paddle (paddle.com), acting as merchant of record. They collect your name, email, billing details and payment information under their own privacy policy. We will receive your order details, email address, country and licence key, as Paddle passes them on to us.
- Licence activation (planned, not built): the plan is that you enter a licence key once, and the Software checks it online one time with a licence service, sending the licence key and a random per-install device identifier we generate (not a hardware serial number), and nothing else. After that one check, the Software runs offline permanently, with no periodic recheck. This connection is not built yet; it will be added to the table above before purchase is possible.
- We keep order records for 5 years, as Australian tax law requires, and we keep your support history for as long as your licence is active.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Marketing email only with your consent, with an unsubscribe link.
