Everything in the box

Substrike is a batch captioner first. It is also a caption editor, a highlight finder and a montage builder. Here is all of it, in plain words.

Hands free

Getting clips in

Set it up once, then play. Finished clips appear while you do something else.

  • A folder, or just Friday.Add a folder of clips. If it holds months of recordings, pick a date range and take only that night.
  • Watch your OBS folder.Leave Substrike open and new clips are captioned as you save them. Tick a box and it resumes whenever Substrike starts.
  • Twitch clips, delivered.Connect your Twitch account once in Settings. Clips your viewers make are downloaded and queued for captioning every 15 minutes, every hour, or when you say.
  • Try it before the big download.On first run, Substrike captions 15 seconds of your own clip with a small model already in the installer, so you see it work first.
  • Pick up where you left off.The home screen lists clips you started but did not export, with a Continue button.

Transcription

Words and speakers

  • Speech recognition on your PC.On gaming voice chat it got more words right than the cloud services we tested. See the proof.
  • Every word on the beat.Align timing snaps each word to the moment it was spoken, so captions pop when the word is said.
  • A colour and a lane per speaker.Voices are grouped automatically. Say how many people are talking and the grouping updates instantly.
  • Names remembered.Name a friend once and choose Remember, and their voice is labelled in later clips. The voiceprint stays on your PC and you can delete it any time.
  • Mic, party, game.If OBS records separate tracks, tell Substrike which is which. Game audio stays in the export and is never transcribed.
  • Names and jargon.Type your squad's gamertags and game terms once, and the model spells them your way.
  • Find and replace rules.Always hears Raze as “raise”? Fix it once and every new clip gets it right, with one undo.
  • Keep the ums (experimental).For clips where the stammer is the joke, keep filler words in.
  • Listen closer.Select a mumbled stretch and ask for a second listen. Anything it adds is marked for you to check.
  • Other languages (beta).Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Italian are in beta, and captions can be translated after the fact. Their accuracy is not measured yet.
Checking

Don't rewatch the whole clip

  • Review words.Step through only the words the model doubted: confirm, replay, keep and remember, or mark as not said. About ten seconds a word.
  • Clean clips do not wait.In a batch, a clip with three or fewer unsure words exports on its own with the count shown. The rest wait for you.
  • Fixes remembered.Corrections you accept are used on later clips, so the same name is never wrong twice.
  • Your own accuracy record.A small chart on the home screen shows how many words you changed per checked clip. It stays on your PC.

The editor

A word timeline, when you want one

Most clips never need it. When one does, it feels like the video editors you already know.

  • Every word on the waveform.One lane per speaker, so you can see who talked over whom.
  • Drag to retime.Drag a word to move it, or its edges to trim it. Shift drags a whole line; [ and ] nudge.
  • Fix who said it.Box select a run of words and drag it onto the right speaker's lane. One undo puts it back.
  • Add what it missed.Double click on empty space and type the line, right where it was said.
  • Feels like your editor.J K L shuttle, frame step, split at the playhead, and undo everywhere.
  • Safe zones.Safe zone overlays for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, so captions never sit under the buttons.

Highlights and montages

  • Find highlights.Scans a whole recording for the loud, excited stretches and ranks them. Pick your genre from eleven and the rules change to suit, from short FPS spikes to horror's whispers then screams.
  • Flag your catchphrases.“Clip that”, “no way”, or your own words: the moments your friends already called out.
  • Deaths and laughter (experimental).Find “I died” moments from the words, or laughter by ear. Early, so check the results.
  • The Montage builder.Join highlights from several saved projects, or a finished batch, into one post. Drag to reorder, drop what you do not want.
  • Sound, not sight.Substrike hears the reaction; it does not watch the game. It is a shortlist, and you choose.

Style

Captions that look like yours

  • Six looks, fonts included.Beast, Neon, Clean, Retro, Hype and Comic. The fonts ship inside the app, so the export matches the preview.
  • Word by word animation.Pop, bounce, karaoke highlight, glow or shake, with one to eight words a page and your colours.
  • Living captions.Captions drift towards whoever is talking, grow when they are loud, and shake on a scream.
  • Stickers.Drop a reaction sticker on the clip and drag it where you want it.
  • Your presets, shared.Save a look and send the file to a mate.
Export and sharing

Ready for wherever it is going

  • Pick the size limit, Substrike handles the rest.Discord 20, 50, 100 or 500 MB, or your own. The finished file is measured and shrunk again if it came out over.
  • Vertical in one click.9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, with framing that follows the action. Or keep the original size for YouTube.
  • Any graphics card, or none.NVIDIA, AMD and Intel hardware encoders are used when present, and Windows' own encoder when not.
  • Smaller files when your card allows.H.264 plays everywhere; HEVC and AV1 make smaller files. Only formats your PC can really encode are offered.
  • Subtitle files too.Save an SRT beside the video for Premiere, Resolve, CapCut or YouTube, or the subtitles on their own.
  • Send it straight to your Discord.Set it up once, then send any export with one click, or post automatically when an export finishes.
  • Post text, written for you.A title, hook and hashtags from the local model, with copy buttons.
  • Before and after.One clip showing the raw footage beside the captioned result.

Built to survive the night

  • Survives a crash.The batch list and your edits are saved as they happen. Interrupted clips are retried, and half written files are set aside.
  • Never overwrites.Two clips with the same name get (2) and (3).
  • Safe to share a screenshot.Error messages hide your Windows user name, network names and Discord links.
  • Updates itself.Signed updates from a public releases page, and your models stay put.
